Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson suggested on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ last Saturday afternoon (January 16) that only one Liverpool player would get into the current Tottenham Hotspur team.
“How many Liverpool players will get into the Tottenham team?” said Merson. “How many? I can’t name you one."
“Maybe Coutinho, but would you take him out instead of Dele Alli at the moment? I don’t think so,” added the former England international.
When asked about Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel, Merson said: “Skrtel? They have got the best two centre-halves in the league, Tottenham. Probably Clyne, who has not been great this season."
Nathaniel Clyne joined Liverpool from Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer of 2015.
The England international right-back has not been exactly great, but the 24-year-old has been impressive on many occasions.
In 22 Premier League appearances for the Reds so far this season, the former Crystal Palace man has created 14 chances, has a pass accuracy of 77% and a shot accuracy of 13%, and has won six headers, 16 dribbles and 39 tackles.
Philippe Coutinho is one of the best players on the books of Liverpool at the moment, but the Brazil international attacking midfielder needs to do better than he has so far this campaign.
The 23-year-old former Inter Milan man has scored five goals and created 26 chances in 17 league matches for Liverpool so far this term.
