Burnley midfielder Joey Barton said on the Matchday Live with Fletch & Sav show on BT Sport 1 last Saturday morning (January 16) that he prefers Everton duo Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley to Tottenham Hotspur pair Dele Alli and Harry Kane.
The former Newcastle United midfielder was asked which two players he would take as a pair: Lukaku and Barkley or Alli and Kane.
Barton responded by saying: “I don’t think it’s even close. I would take Barkley and Lukaku every day of the week. Alli has come in and he has done fantastically well, but it’s relatively early days.”
Lukaku and Kane are two of the best young strikers in the Premier League, while Barkley and Alli are two of the best young midfielders in the English top flight.
Kane, who is 22 years of age and has won eight caps for England, has scored 12 goals and created 27 chances in 22 league games so far this season.
Belgium international striker Lukaku, 22, has scored 15 goals and created 32 chances in 22 Premier League appearances this campaign.
Alli, who is only 19 years old and is arguably the best teenage footballer in the Premier League at the moment, has scored five goals and created 24 chances in 20 league matches.
Barkley, 22, has scored six goals and created 34 chances in 22 league appearances for Everton this term.
