HITC Sport understands that Newcastle still want striker and winger.

Newcastle United sources have told HITC Sport that they are very much still in talks for Saido Berahino and Andros Townsend.

Reports had claimed that they had stepped back from deals for both West Bromwich Albion striker Berahino and Tottenham Hotspur winger Townsend.

But HITC Sport has been told that is not the case and they remain hopeful of landing the English pair.

"Both players very much remain at the top of the club's radar, a lot of work has been done on these deals," the source confirmed to HITC Sport.

Newcastle first made a move for Berahino last summer, but their offer was rejected and now they have returned to The Baggies and as HITC Sport revealed, they have told them to name their price - and they would go up to £25million, but at the moment Baggies chief Jeremy Peace is looking for close to £30million,

Newcastle are continuing talks with the hope that Peace will reduce his asking price. And likewise with Townsend, they remain interested but the player's price tag is the issue.

Tottenham have placed a asking price of £14million on Townsend, and Newcastle will not go much above £10million whilst also confirming they would be happy with an initial loan.

HITC Sport understands that both players have made it known via their representatives that they would like to switch to St James' Park.
