The 21-year-old has left Tottenham for League One side Peterborough.
Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to sell Shaq Coulthirst to Peterborough United on a permanent deal, having announced the move on Friday morning.
Reaction has been mixed – and there has been a degree of meltdown from a few fans.
Indeed, the fact Coulthirst can play up front seems to have angered a number of supporters, who have pointed out on Twitter that Tottenham need a forward – and shouldn’t instead be selling them.
At 21, Coulthirst looked to have plenty of potential and had knocked on the first-team door on a couple of occasions a White Hart Lane. There were also loan spells away and a gradual realisation that he was never going to have a Harry Kane moment and start netting regularly for the first team.
That doesn’t mean he couldn’t have been first-team material eventually – but Spurs clearly feel they could afford to let him go.
While Peterborough have themselves a new forward, then, Tottenham find themselves with one less back-up. That has infuriated many, even though others are pointing out the fact Coulthirst was not in Mauricio Pochettino’s senior side, anyway. Here’s a selection of the best initial reaction to the sale…
