West Ham United winger Michail Antonio says he is the club’s quickest player.
The former Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest man was taking part in a Q&A session for the club’s official Twitter feed and one supporter quizzed him on the quickest player currently playing for the Hammers.
While a race over a 40m or 100m distance between the players has not yet occurred, Antonio believes on his own ability and immediately named.
“I think I’m the quickest at the club. We’ve not really had a race yet but I’d say me,” he answered.
Antonio arrived at the club from Nottingham Forest last summer, trading the City Ground for East London in a deal which helped his former side following their failure to comply with FFP regulations.
The 25-year-old initially struggled for game-time, yet following a succession of injuries he made his long-awaited debut and never looked back since then, impressing on a number of occasions.
With the club previously lacking genuine width, Antonio provides a real outlet for the Hammers and his presence frees up more space in the middle for star player Dimitri Payet.
When asked on Payet’s abilities, Antonio commented that the France international was the best player he has ever played with.
He added: “He’s unbelievable, definitely the best player I’ve played with. And I think he will just get better.”
Antonio and Payet have helped West Ham surge up the table following a dip in form ahead of the festive period. Three wins in their last four leaves Bilic’s men in sixth spot in the Premier League table.
