Sam Allardyce confirms cancellation of Lamine Kone transfer

Sunderland will not be signing Lamine Kone this month.

Sam Allardyce has told Sky Sports that he will be looking for other players now that a deal for Lamine Kone has fallen through.

Allardyce said: “I suppose in this window you have more disappointments than successes, so the most important thing is to try and move on and see if we can find the type of player that will make an impact.”

A move for Kone had already fallen though earlier this month, and this must be one of the first times that a club have failed twice in the same window to sign the same player.

The Black Cats went back in for Kone after seeing the first move collapse, but no deal could be reached this time either, and Allardyce has confirmed he will move on to look for new targets.

He wants to ensure more players are brought in before the close of the transfer window, and with just over one week of the month left, he is not willing to stay focused won this deal with it looking unlikely.

There are no indications in the report as to who Allardyce is looking to sign, but a defender is surely high on his list having failed to sign Kone.

Another striker would not go amiss, to take some of the goalscoring stress off Jermain Defoe, and a creative midfielder would bring further attacking flair to a team who have lacked offensive threat for much of the campaign.
