Sam Allardyce clarifies Steven Fletcher situation

Sunderland striker Fletcher has been linked with a move to Celtic or China.

Speaking to the Mirror, Sam Allardyce has suggested that Steven Fletcher will remain at Sunderland beyond the end of the transfer window, with no offers yet submitted for the forward.

Allardyce said: “I don’t see him leaving at this point. We’ll only talk about it if there’s an enquiry.”

Despite not confirming that Fletcher will definitely stay at the Stadium of Light, Allardyce sounds confident that the striker will still be on Wearside past the close of the transfer window.

Fletcher has slipped down the pecking order at Sunderland since Allardyce took charge, and is out of contract at the end of the season.

He has scored four goals in 18 games this term, and his reputation has seen him linked with an exit this month.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Fletcher has been targeted by Shanghai Shenhua for a big-money move to China, whilst the Shields Gazette indicate that Celtic want to sign their boyhood supporter.

However, no move looks set to be completed any time soon, and Fletcher will be leaving Wearside at the end of a season on a free transfer, when a move to Celtic or Shanghai is sure to follow.
