Report: Southampton join Stoke City in hunt for Ligue 1 talent Didier Ndong

The Gabon international has been in great form at Lorient.

It has been reported by the press in France that Stoke City could be about to make a move for Didier Ndong of FC Lorient.

The first report came from Foot Mercato in France - who claimed that Stoke City are one of a number of Premier League teams interested in the player.

Now L'Equipe is also claiming that Southampton are joining Stoke in the hunt for the player.

They report that Southampton have been watching the player and are impressed by what they have seen. Both Southampton and Stoke are therefore expected to make a move for the player.

However the report claims that he will not be sold until the summer and if he does go it will not be for less than €10 million (£7.75 million).

Ndong is a Gabonese international who only joined his current club in 2015 after four years playing for CS Sfaxien in the Tunisian top flight.

He impressed in North Africa and has been at Lorient for a year now and has earned big plaudits for his performances in French football.

Stoke would be getting a player whom Lorient vice-president Alex Hayes told The Independent is the 'next Michael Essien' and is considered one of the top talents in Ligue 1.

Ndong has played 21 times this season and scored two goals for the club as he continues to catch the eye with his all action midfield displays in Brittany.
