Newcastle have made a bid for Espanyol striker Mamadou, Sport reports.
The 21-year-old striker currently plays for the Spanish side, and has made six appearances the season. He has managed just 142 actions of league action this term, but is a good scorer at reserve level for the club.
He netted 15 goals in 64 games for Espanyol B, and managed three in 11 during a loan spell with Racing Santander last term.
The report claims he has been in advanced talks with Belgian side Beveren concerning a loan deal for the rest of the season, with Espanyol not likely to use him much more this campaign.
They view him as a player for the future, but would be ready to sell him this month should a good offer be put forward.
The report indicates that their priority is to keep ahold of the former Barcelona youth prospect, but will assess the offer now that is has been submitted.
There is no indication that a £1.1 million fee (€1.5m) is enough to secure Mamadou’s services.
