Report: Middlesbrough offer £9m plus Kike for Fulham's Ross McCormack

Aitor Karanka's men currently sit at the top of the Championship, two points clear of Hull City.

Middlesbrough have offered £9m plus Kike in an attempt to convince Fulham to sell their star striker Ross McCormack, according to the Daily Mail.

Aitor Karanka's side have already seen an £8m bid rejected by the Cottagers (via Mail), so are clearly hoping that the improved offer, that includes their own forward going the other way, will tempt Fulham into letting the Scotland international leave Craven Cottage this month.

With Boro currently sitting at the top of the Championship, it is unsurprising that they wish to go after the 29-year-old in an attempt to strengthen their promotion chances.

The former Leeds man is the division's top goalscorer this season with 15 strikes to his name, but with Fulham currently 17 points off the top six - and just four points above the bottom three - he will know that a move to the Riverside Stadium easily represents his best chance of playing in the Premier League in the near future.

And while Slavisa Jokanovic may not be keen to let one of his best players go, especially with a potential relegation battle on the cards, the fact that he may be getting a striker in return may prove to soften the blow.

Kike has been more of a fringe player for Karanka's side this term, but has still scored four league goals, so could be able to help Fulham drag themselves away from danger.
