Report: Espanyol close in on Watford goalie Giedrius Arlauskis, one stumbling block remains

The Lithuanian looks to be on his way to Spain.

This week Watford made a quite surprising addition to their group with the arrival of Costel Pantilimon from Sunderland.

The Romanian's arrival was a shock as Watford already had two international goalies defending the sticks. Heurelho Gomes is the undisputed number one at Vicarage Road currently whilst summer signing Giedrius Arlauskis seemed an able deputy.

Now it seems that Pantilimon was brought in as a replacement for the former Steaua Bucharest stopper - as he is seemingly off to La Liga side Espanyol.

The La Liga club are believed to be keen on signing the player and Sport are reporting that contact has been made.

The publication states that Watford, who signed Arlauskis on a free, have accepted a €1 million (£770,000) bid for the player and that a deal is all set to go through.

Problem is Espanyol need to cancel the loan deal for Italian goalkeeper Francesco Bardi, currently at the club from Inter Milan. That is becoming a problem as Inter will not accept him back until they find another party interested in taking him on board.

It does seem however that Espanyol will be able to get something over the line for the player, who has played just twice for Watford with his last appearance coming against Aston Villa in November.
