According to a report in the Dundee Evening Telegraph, Birmingham City are eyeing a double-swoop for both Blair Spittal and John Souttar, although a January bid is unlikely.
The Dundee United pair have caught the eye with their performances in the Scotland this season, and Birmingham have had scouts tracking their progress.
The Blues, who have funds to spend in January following the departure of Demarai Gray to Leicester City, stationed their chief scout, Mick Harford, at Dundee United’s most recent match.
However, it is said that Birmingham are more keen in doing a deal in the summer - as they are not fully convinced that the pair would be ready to play Championship football yet.
Birmingham are keen to improve the quality of their squad in January, but there is a realisation that the players they sign in this window need to be ready to come straight into their first team.
Spittal and Souttar are still learning their trade, and Birmingham are keen to allow them to have the rest of the season in Scotland, before making an offer.
