Harry Redknapp has lauded Tottenham wide man Andros Townsend, suggesting Newcastle United as the perfect new club for him, according to the London Evening Standard.

And the former manager was just as confident of getting the best out of Townsend when he signed the winger for QPR.

Indeed, Redknapp brought the 24-year-old to QPR on loan and the Tottenham man has now been linked with a move to Newcastle.

Redknapp told the Standard: "Newcastle will love him. He makes things happen. He runs with the ball, gets shots in and I’m a big fan of his.

"I took him at Queens Park Rangers when he was being loaned out endlessly and always thought he could make it at the highest level."

Redknapp's transfer market acumen at QPR was famous, of course, but for all the wrong reasons.

The R's ended up relegated with Redknapp not even seeing out the season with them after a combination of poor tactics, poor decision-making above the head coach and terrible signings came together.

After all, there is a reason Townsend isn't playing for Tottenham.

But that doesn't mean he can't succeed at Newcastle. He might also still be playing for Spurs if some of his team-mates simply hadn't upped their games.

One drawback, however, is the fact the Magpies are reportedly ending their pursuit of the winger over Daniel Levy's high asking price - as stated by the Daily Telegraph.
