Frenchman Defrel was linked with possible moves to Everton and Southampton last summer after impressing with Cesena in Serie A last season with nine goals.
However, Sassuolo moved quickly to sign Defrel following Cesena's relegation and the 24-year-old has played a big part in helping Sassuolo to seventh spot in Serie A this season.
The 24-year-old has scored two goals and laid on two assists and the former Parma man has been attracting the interest of a number of clubs across Europe.
