Manchester United transfer news: Cavani reportedly wants move; Standard Liege want Valdes on loan

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

According to a report from ESPN, Manchester United are considering making an official bid for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani.

The 28-year-old has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and there is no doubt a player of his talent up front is exactly what United have been missing this season, but with a contract until the summer of 2018 he will not come cheap.

ESPN claim they have been told by sources that Cavani is extremely keen to move to United and having scored 209 club goals in 377 appearances to date what a coup it would be.

In other news, the Daily Mail claims Belgian side Standard Liege want to offer Spanish goalkeeper Victor Valdes an escape route from Old Trafford.

The former Barcelona stopper signed for United on a free transfer last year but he has fallen out of favour and looks unlikely to ever feature for the club again.

With manager Louis van Gaal reportedly preferring Valdes to make a move abroad rather than to another Premier League side, it is being claimed Liege want to sign him on loan for the rest of the current campaign.
