The Liverpool youngster is set for a bright future at Anfield.
Tiago Ilori must have wondered when his chance at Liverpool would come. After all, since signing for the Reds from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2013 the Portuguese defender has spent time on loan at Granada, Bordeaux and more recently Aston Villa.
While his spells in Spain and France proved beneficial, his stint at the Villans did not go according to plan, and after he failed to make a single first-team appearance he was brought back to Anfield and swiftly thrown into the starting line-up for their FA Cup clash with Exeter City.
Ilori again featured in the replay and his performance suggested he is ready for the step up under Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
The Reds ran out comfortable 3-0 winners but Ilori deserves plenty of plaudits for a composed display at the opposite end of the field.
Still only 22, Ilori looked very impressive against the League Two side and while there is a big difference between that and playing regularly in the Premier League, the Portuguese is certainly heading in the right direction.
Given Liverpool’s problems at the back this season it would be no surprise to see Klopp give Ilori more chances in the months ahead, possibly even gifting him his top flight debut after his fine showings in the cup, and it would not before time.
