Former Celtic and Arsenal forward Charlie Nicholas suggested on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (January 16) that West Ham United can finish in the top four of the Premier League this season.
“I am convinced they are top-four material, absolutely convinced, and I have been for several weeks,” said Nicholas. “I have been convinced of that before (Dimitri) Payet actually came back into the team because he (manager Slaven Bilic) has adapted his team to get the results when times were tough.”
Nicholas made his comments before West Ham’s clash against Newcastle United away from home on Saturday afternoon.
The Hammers lost the game 2-1 at St. James’ Park, but they still have a good chance of finishing in the top four of the Premier League this campaign.
Slaven Bilic’s side are sixth in the standings at the moment with 35 points from 22 matches.
The London outfit are just four points behind Tottenham Hotspur, who are currently fourth and occupy the final Champions League spot.
Perhaps on paper West Ham do not have the squad to finish in the Champions League places, but this is a season in which everything is possible.
The Hammers will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Manchester City at the Boleyn Ground in the Premier League.
