Transfer Bin: Odion Ighalo to West Ham United

Watford Vicarage Road 2

Odion Ighalo has been linked with an unlikely move to West Ham.

Watford striker Odion Ighalo has been touted as a potential target for West Ham, with The Times speculating he could be the 'mystery striker' the club intend to sign.

Really? Well it would make sense that the Hammers would be interested in the forward, but none at all if Watford were to consider letting him go.

Why the interest?

Ighalo is in his first season in the Premier League, and has adapted quickly. He has 13 goals in 22 games already this season, combining well with partner Troy Deeney. In the second half of last season alone he scored 16 Championship goals, helping to fire Watford to promotion.

Would he be interested in a move?

It's likely that given Watford's impressive start to the season, he would see a move to West Ham as a sideways step, and they would have to convince him otherwise. The Mirror reported last month he is on the radar of Atletico Madrid, while he was quoted by The Mail insisting boyhood side Manchester United are the side he really dreams of joining, but importantly is happy at Watford.

What did Watford boss Quique Flores recently say?

He has no intention of sanctioning a deal, telling The Mirror: "I am happy to keep our best players here and to grow the project and it is completely impossible that Deeney or Ighalo will leave this month."

Do West Ham have the money?

No. Watford are not keen to sell and in this market could command upwards of £15 million for the 26-year-old. Hammers co-owner David Sullivan told The Standard that the club have no money to spend on big wages, and this would surely surely out substantial transfer fees too.

This rumour is one for the Transfer Bin.
