Taking to his personal Twitter account, Stan Collymore has reacted to the news that Jose Angel Crespo has departed Aston Villa for Rayo Vallecano.
Crespo. Another genius signing by the “system” off to join another relegation scrap in Spain. The quality oozes from every Villa pore.— Stan Collymore (@StanCollymore) January 20, 2016
Crespo has linked up with Rayo on a loan deal until the end of the season, and it would not be a surprise to see the defender leave permanently at the end of the campaign.
The 28-year-old was signed from Cordoba over the summer, and his season has seen him manage just two appearances for Villa.
He played the full 90 minutes in the Premier League defeat to Stoke, and the League Cup defeat to Southampton, and has not been included in a matchday squad since the beginning of November.
This was no surprise, as it was clear during his appearances that he was nowhere near good enough for the Premier League.
Collymore has criticised the signing of Crespo, claiming it proves that the ‘system’ running Villa have once again messed up.
The background staff signed a player from a poor Spanish team and have loaned him out to another relegation fighting La Liga side, hardly suggesting they are scouting the right players.
Collymore has long been critical of the way Villa are searching for new players, and Crespo's departure is another way to prove that the former striker has made many valid points.
