Seamus Coleman's ongoing excellence means Everton should not worry about missing out on Sam Byram

Everton Goodison 3

Everton missed out on the Leeds United player as he headed instead to West Ham United.

For every club that seals the signing of a sought after player there are plenty of other sides left disappointed.

In the case of Sam Byram, it was Everton who were left to lick their proverbial wounds after West Ham United signed the 22-year-old from Leeds United despite the Toffees having an offer accepted.

As reported by the Mirror Byram opted for the Hammers over Roberto Martinez’s side, but before Everton fans get too upset, did they really need him?

In the long term there is no doubt the right-back would have been a wonderful addition at Goodison Park, but with Seamus Coleman still only 27 there are plenty of years for Martinez to seek out another suitable replacement.

The Republic of Ireland international may have his injury problems yet he is widely regarded as one of the best players in his position not just in England but in Europe, so no wonder Byram opted for a club who do not have their own recognised right-back rather than fighting against one of the very best in the game.

Everton could do with additions, and Byram’s ability to play on the wing would have come in very handy, but how upset should you get at missing out on a player who is not as good as one you are lucky enough to have for the long term?

There will be other setbacks for Everton, and Byram will impress for West Ham if he lives up to his potential. However missing out on him is something to shrug off and move on from with Coleman getting better every season.
