Report: West Brom want QPR’s Matt Phillips, but Berahino must be sold before any deal

West Brom - The Hawthorns

West Brom are interested in signing QPR’s Matt Phillips - but Newcastle could prevent the deal.

West Brom are hoping to sign Matt Phillips of QPR this month, the Daily Mail reports.

Tony Pulis is a big fan of the QPR star, and he is looking to add more attacking width to his squad.

Phillips has been earmarked as the best option available, and QPR are ready to sanction his departure this month as long as they receive a bid of at least £7 million for his services.

Phillips also wants to return to the Premier League from Loftus Road, and all signs point to the Baggies completing a deal for the winger this month.

However, Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace is refusing to allow Pulis to sign any players until Saido Berahino is sold.

The report indicates that Newcastle want Berahino, and a move for Phillips will only be viable if the Magpies formally sign the West Brom striker.

There is no indication that Newcastle are pushing ahead with their interest in Berahino, and Pulis will have to forget his interest in Phillips if Steve McClaren opts not to bring the young striker to St James’ Park.
