According to a report in the Shields Gazette, Newcastle United’s Cheick Tiote could leave the club before the weekend.
Tiote’s move to Shanghai Shenhua had been placed into doubt, after reports suggested that the two parties had failed to agree personal terms.
However, the Shields Gazette claims that the transfer is on track and will go through in the near future.
Tiote is said to have agreed terms with the Chinese club, and Newcastle have accepted a bid worth around £5 million.
Steve McClaren is said to be an admirer of Tiote’s talents, but with the arrivals of Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet this month, he has dropped down the pecking order.
If Tiote does leave Newcastle in the near future, he will do so having played 129 Premier League games for the North East club, across a six year period.
The 29-year-old will also follow in the footsteps of Didier Drogba, who moved from the Premier League to Shanghai back in 2012.
