Paterson was on the losing side for Huddersfield Town.
He also scored in the first leg nine days earlier, evidently enjoying playing against the Royals.
Paterson was not smiling come the end of the game though, with Reading fighting back in front of a home crowd at the Madejski Stadium, going on to win 5-2.
In the last four games he has played in FA Cup and Championship competition, Paterson has scored three goals, scoring one and assisting another in the recent 5-0 win over strugglers Charlton Athletic.
His parent side Nottingham Forest meanwhile struggle for goals, netting only 29 times in 27 games in the Championship this season, compared to Huddersfield's 36.
Forest's defence has been the difference this campaign, and Dougie Freedman's side are three points and four league places clear of Huddersfield.
