The Gunners are currently top of the table alongside Leicester City.
The Gunners are currently joint top of the table after 22 games in what has so far been an impressive campaign from Arsene Wenger’s side.
They have somehow managed to keep pushing at the top of the table despite a series of injuries to key men, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla all spending large periods on the treatment table.
And Thompson says their ability to pick up points without those players is why he believes they will be the champions come the end of the season.
“At this moment, I've got Arsenal to win the league because they're slightly more consistent than Man City,” he told Sky Sports.
“They have proved that they can keep racking up the points without their star players, while City look short without Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Vincent Kompany.”
“Alexis Sanchez's injury could prove a blessing as well as he's finally getting a rest.”
The last point about Sanchez could be an interesting one from Thompson, with the Chilean soon set to return from injury.
After a busy year, there had been a danger that he would burn out in the second half of the campaign, something which could have seriously harmed their title credentials.
His injury has afforded him the rest he needed though, and Arsenal will be hoping he can be a big influence in the second half of the campaign as they hunt down the title.
