The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder should get a rare chance to impress this evening.
According to a recent report from French website Onze Mondial, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Nabil Bentaleb has been omitted from the first-team for ignoring instructions from manager Mauricio Pochettino not to return to international duty.
In contrast, the London Evening Standard claims it was in fact negotiations during Bentaleb’s contract renewal last season that soured relations at White Hart Lane. But whatever the reason, the Algerian international may have the chance to play his way back into Pochettino’s good graces this evening.
Tottenham travel to the King Power Stadium today to take on Leicester City in their FA Cup third round replay, and having featured for 22 minutes in the first tie it would be no surprise to see Bentaleb play again tonight.
With Leicester currently flying high in the Premier League and recently defeating Spurs 1-0 this would be the perfect time for Bentaleb to deliver a great performance and remind everyone – including his manager – what he is capable of.
If he flatters to deceive, Pochettino has already shown he has the players who can perform consistently with Eric Dier, Dele Alli and Mousa Dembele all impressing in midfield this season.
So while there are likely to be more chances in the cup competitions as the campaign goes on, this could be Bentaleb’s best shot at proving he is ready to fight for his place here and now.
