Mauricio Pochettino offers alternative solution to Tottenham's transfer struggles

Mauricio Pochettino has hinted he could look towards Tottenham’s academy this season.

Spurs’ search for a new striker continues to be a struggle, and Mauricio Pochettino has told Ham&High that he could look towards the academy for players the season - mentioning two attackers by name.

Pochettino said: “I’ve always told you we need to add the right profile or people or players to improve us. If we don’t find the right player that can improve us, then why do it? To bring a player just to bring him in? This is not our philosophy. We have enough quality, we have younger players in our academy with a lot of potential like Shayon [Harrison] and Kazaiah Sterling. I can give a lot of names that are very young and are hungry and can help us to achieve everything.”

Spurs are looking to bring players in this month, with a striker wanted by Pochettino as a back-up to Harry Kane.

However, the head coach only wants to bring in a player who fits in with Tottenham’s philosophy, ruling out any number of targets who are not suited for Spurs.

Since arriving at White Hart Lane, Pochettino has done much to streamline his playing squad with players who can perform in his system, and there is no point ruining such an approach at this moment in time.

For Pochettino, if the correct option is not out there, there is no point bringing someone else in, and he would prefer to look at the ‘hungry’ players already contracted to the North London side.

This means academy players, with Pochettino name checking two youngsters for potential future inclusion.

Shayon Harrison is an 18-year-old striker who has been excelling in Under-21 football, whilst Kazaiah Sterling is one year young, but is another striker who is already making a name for himself at Under-21 level.

Clearly they are highly rated by Pochettino, and if Spurs fail to bring in a new striker this month, the duo could feature for the first-team before the end of this season.
