After more than 600 days out of the first team through injury, Jon Flanagan has made his return for Liverpool.
The defender came off the bench for the final 20 minutes of the victory over Exeter City in the FA Cup third round replay.
Flanagan's pre-injury displays earned him cheeky comparisons to legendary Brazilian full-back Cafu, a two-time World Cup winner in 1994 and 2002.
This led to Cafu even visiting Anfield to watch Flanagan in action, and last night upon his return to action he acknowledged the 23-year-old.
I have a thousand tweets! I guess it's the return of a friend to the field!!! @LFC— Cafu. (@officialcafu) January 20, 2016
Flanagan's return could not be better timed for Liverpool, who have struggled with injuries under Jurgen Klopp.
The defender's full throttle style should suit the German's plans, although he would be well advised to use him sparingly and sensibly between now and the end of the season.
While a potential England call up for Euro 2016 is a nice target for Flanagan to aim for, more important is simply establishing himself and learning under Klopp, staying fit, and showing he should be a first choice selection in the team next season.
