Newcastle United are considering signing Matt Phillips from QPR, the Telegraph reported earlier this week.
The Championship ace is viewed as an alternative to Andros Townsend, who is priced by Tottenham at a surely too expensive £14 million.
Phillips may turn out to be the better of the two, as not only has he been playing more regularly, he shone last season in the Premier League, having missed the first part of the 2014/15 campaign with injury.
In the calendar year of 2015, Phillips provided eight assists in the Premier League - a figure exceeded by only six players.
This is despite the fact he only played half a season in the top flight during this time, managing eight in 15 games, compared to David Silva's 12 in 30.

|Chris Brunt||West Brom||9||35|
Needless to say, this surpasses every Newcastle United player during the same period - and Andros Townsend.
Moussa Sissoko has the most assists of any Newcastle player in 2015, recording six - but taking 35 games to do so.
