Stan Collymore has written on Boylesports.com that Liverpool should make a move for Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland.
The former Liverpool striker is not convinced by either Simon Mignolet or Adam Bogdan, and has urged the Reds to go big for the 22-year-old.
“I’m a little surpassed at Migs getting a new deal firstly,” Collymore has written on Boylesports.com. “Neither he or Bogdan are Liverpool class goalkeepers for me, and if Liverpool are going to start winning trophies, that comes from clean sheets and confidence in the keeper from the back 4 which I do not see consistently enough.
“So I’d break the bank for Jack Butland. He could give the youth, quality and consistency for years to come in the manner Joe Hart did at a pivotal time for Manchester City, and overall it has worked very well indeed.”
Butland is one of the best young players in the Premier League and is playing well at the moment.
The 22-year-old England international goalkeeper has featured regularly for Stoke this campaign and has made some stunning saves.
The former Birmingham City youngster has kept nine clean sheets in 22 Premier League games so far this season. Butland has made 2.95 saves per game and 2.95 saves per goal on average.
Stoke are seventh in the Premier League table at the moment with 33 points from 22 matches. The Potters are six points behind Tottenham Hotspur, who are currently fourth and occupy the final Champions League spot.
Meanwhile, Liverpool currently find themselves ninth in the standings with 31 points from 22 games.
