The Ivory Coast striker has been linked with a move to Swansea City.
At 28 the Ivory Coast international is no spring chicken, but what Swansea need are players who can make an immediate impact and Doumbia could certainly do that.
Swansea are currently 17th in the Premier League table after climbing out of the relegation zone following their vital 1-0 victory against Watford on Monday evening.
But without more goals they look set to be fighting against the drop for the remainder of the campaign, so Doumbia’s arrival would be a saving grace.
The forward is currently owned by Italian club AS Roma but he is on loan at his former side CSKA Moscow, for whom he has scored 11 goals in 21 matches this season.
Prior to that he netted a very impressive 84 goals in 129 appearances for the Russian club and with that kind of record it is no surprise Swansea are said to be interested.
Some fans may question a big-money purchase for a player with no sell-on value who is likely to be on sizeable wages, but Swansea need to stay in the Premier League and so it will be small price to pay if Doumbia helps them do just that.
After all, Doumbia has already shown he can score against Premier League opposition as he did against Manchester United in the Champions League earlier this season, while a player with 163 club goals in 276 matches is well worth a look.
