Roberto Martinez names Kevin Mirallas as Everton's outstanding performer against Chelsea

Everton Goodison 3

Everton drew 3-3 with Chelsea in their most recent outing.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has told the Liverpool Echo that Kevin Mirallas was outstanding against Chelsea.

Mirallas has found his first-team chances limited at Goodison Park this season, but he was handed a rare start at Stamford Bridge and he did not disappoint.

The Belgian international showed Martinez exactly what he has been missing, and helped Everton collect a 3-3 draw by scoring in a pulsating encounter.

After the match Martinez said: "Kevin’s performance was outstanding and that is what you want from every member of our squad so I have got no problem whatsoever with that and football is the best judge and when Kevin is at his very, very best he showed just how important he is for us.”

Mirallas has been playing second fiddle to the likes of Arouna Kone and Gerard Deulofeu so far this season.

The 28-year-old has made just four Premier League starts to date, with most his appearances coming as a substitute.

His lack of first-team action caused rumours to circulate that he could be set to leave Goodison Park in January, but it seems that he is now very much part of Martinez’s plans after playing in such a huge clash.

With Steven Naismith leaving for Norwich City, Mirallas could see his first-team chances increase further in the coming weeks.
