Tottenham are hoping to sign Atletico Madrid striker Jackson Martinez.
Tottenham have made a formal bid for Jackson Martinez of Atletico Madrid, Marca reports.
The 29-year-old Colombian has come in for some criticism this season, given that he has scored just three goals in 20 games for the Rojiblanca after making a £24.5 million move to Spain over the summer.
His form has not matched his price tag, and Atletico are ready to cash in on Martinez this month - with Tottenham circling.
The Lilywhites are looking for a forward to act as cover and competition for Harry Kane, and so far few options has proven viable.
Martinez is one of the options who looks attractive to Mauricio Pochettino, and Spurs have moved quickly to try and seal a deal for the former Porto star this month.
The report claims that Spurs made direct contact with Atletico, offering £22.8 million (€30m) to secure his services.
However, this approach was immediately rejected by the La Liga leaders, who have placed a £26.6 million (€35m) release clause on Martinez’s head.
There is no indication in the report as to whether Tottenham are ready to raise their bid to match this release clause, or if they will move onto another target as Martinez is out of their price range.
