Report: Man United considering move for Leicester's Kasper Schmeichel as potential David de Gea replacement

The Spaniard has been linked with a move to Real Madrid during this window.

Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs reportedly wants the Red Devils to sign Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel if David de Gea ends up heading to Real Madrid during this window, The Sun reports.

With Los Blancos facing a year-long transfer ban, The Sun claims that Madrid are considering activating de Gea's £30.5m release clause this month, which would potentially leave United facing a dilemma.

The Premier League side are interested in Inter Milan stopper Samir Handanovic, but Giggs would prefer the club to go after the son of his former teammate Peter (via The Sun).

Schmeichel has played every single league game for the Foxes this season, and has been instrumental in a sensational campaign for the club. Despite being tipped by many to be battling the drop this term, Claudio Ranieri's men sit second in the table - level on points with leaders Arsenal - and are already past the 40 point mark, which means their safety should be confirmed for another year.

With some still expecting Leicester's bubble to burst, the 29-year-old may be tempted to consider moving to Old Trafford, and perhaps help the club return to where they feel they should be.
