Liverpool are not pursuing their interest in Shane Long, the Daily Mail reports.
However, having seen that approach rejected - as reported by the Mirror - they are no longer pushing forward with their interest.
Head coach Jurgen Klopp is discussing short-term targets, and securing a deal for Long is not one of his priorities.
Considering the Liverpool squad needs major work, this is not a surprise, and Klopp is preparing moves for various other players before the close of the transfer window at the end of January.
There is no indication that Liverpool will revive their interest in Long in the summer, although Klopp clearly feels the 28-year-old is a player who would improve his current squad, and fit in with the high pressing mentality that his players must possess.
Long has featured 20 times for the Saints this season, scoring eight goals and registering two assists.
