Report: Birmingham complete £75,000 deal for Kidderminster prospect Luke Maxwell

The midfielder will be loaned back to the National League side until the end of the season.

Birmingham City have completed a deal to sign Kidderminster youngster Luke Maxwell, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 18-year-old has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with the Championship club, after the two sides agreed a £75,000 fee for the prospect, the Mail reports.

However, Blues fans will not get to see Maxwell in action for Gary Rowett's side any time soon, as the Mail adds that the midfielder will head back to the National League club on loan until the end of the season.

Maxwell has been one of the few bright points from a very difficult season for Kidderminster, who were up until recently being managed by former Leeds head coach Dave Hockaday.

The Harriers find themselves rooted to the bottom of the table, 13 points adrift of safety, having collected just two league wins all season.

Maxwell will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Viv Solomon-Otabor, who used a spell in the non-league game to help stake a claim for a place in Birmingham's side upon his return.
