Newcastle United-owned Haris Vuckic has told The Daily Record that he could have joined Rangers in the summer of 2015.
Vuckic played on loan for Rangers from Newcastle during the second half of last season and gave a good account of himself at Ibrox.
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder joined Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan deal in the summer of 2015.
The Slovenia international has revealed that he could have moved to Rangers in the summer.
However, the former Domzale man has suggested that he is open to joining Rangers in the future.
“The club came in for me in the summer again,” Vuckic told The Daily Record. “But this time Wigan was the best option for me and Newcastle. Rangers tried but it never happened.
"Newcastle were happier with the Wigan offer and, for me, League One in England is better than the Scottish Championship.
“I think everyone would agree on that. I wanted a new challenge and a bigger step. That’s not against Rangers. They are a very big club.
"But now I’m in a better league. It would have been a different story if Rangers had got promoted. I will never close that option.”
Wigan are fifth in the League One table at the moment with 48 points from 27 matches, six points behind leaders Burton Albion, who have played two games more.
Rangers are at the top of the Scottish Championship table at the moment with 50 points from 20 games.
Mark Warburton’s team are five points clear of second-placed Falkirk and also have a match in hand.
