Mauricio Pochettino addresses rumours surrounding Andros Townsend

The Tottenham Hotspur manager has been speaking about the out-of-favour winger.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to reporters regarding the future of winger Andros Townsend, with his comments later published by the Chronicle.

The 24-year-old has featured just seven times for Tottenham’s first-team this season, with only three of those appearances coming in the Premier League, and with Townsend currently making do with under-21 football it would be no surprise to see him move on this month.

Now Pochettino has addressed the speculation, telling the Chronicle, “I am not involved in the negotiations. I am the head coach.

“Andros has not played in the last few months and he wants to play. If some facility arrives (to leave) the decision is always from the club. Today it’s all about rumours; there’s nothing clear.”

Townsend has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United, either on loan or permanently, and considering the hefty price-tag on his head it would make sense if he does leave White Hart Lane temporarily this month before completing a transfer in the summer.

Whatever happens, it seems Tottenham are in control of the situation and will only allow the player to leave if they get the best possible deal.

With age on his side and talent in abundance, there is no doubt Townsend can still make a huge success of his career wherever he ends up.
