Stokes has joined Scottish Championship side Hibernian on loan from Celtic until the end of the season.
The Republic of Ireland international striker was struggling for playing time at the Scottish Premiership giants. The 27-year-old will hope to hit the ground running at Hibernian and rediscover his form.
Hibernian are aiming to get promoted to the Scottish Premiership at the end of the season, and former Celtic striker Hartson has backed Stokes to play an important role in that.
“I hope Alan Stubbs can re-energise him at Easter Road and help get his spark back,” the former Wales international has written in The Scottish Sun. “Because if he can do that then there is no doubt he’s got a serious player on his hands. Stokesy is someone who can help Hibs win the Championship and get them promoted.”
Hibernian are third in the Scottish Championship table at the moment with 45 points from 20 matches. Alan Stubbs’s side are level on points with second-placed Falkirk, but behind on goal difference.
The Edinburgh-based outfit are five points behind leaders Rangers, who are favourites to gain automatic promotion to the Scottish Premiership at the end of the season.
