Derby County supporters have been left largely baffled by the club’s decision to loan out Alex Pearce.
The centre-back only just joined the Rams from Reading, but he has struggled for appearances ever since moving to the iPro Stadium.
Derby have now permitted the 27-year-old to join Bristol City until the end of the season, to get him some first team action.
With Jake Buxton returning from the treatment table, competition for places at centre back was only becoming more fierce in Derby’s squad, and Pearce has lost out.
The commanding defender is understood to have been keen on the move, as he wishes to force his way into the Republic of Ireland squad for Euro 2016.
Derby fans feel that he wasn’t given a fair opportunity at the club though, and some have expressed disappointment at his move.
Here is the best reaction to Pearce’s Bristol City switch on social media site Twitter.
@dcfcofficial why sign him ? Had enough cover anyway ! Now was the chance to see what he could do— Jason Cain (@jasoncain97) January 19, 2016
I think we should have a statue of Alex Pearce outside the west stand main entrance, club legend. #dcfc— Mitchell (@MitchellTulley_) January 19, 2016
Bristol have signed Alex Pearce, another player not given a chance. Weimann will be next, or Bent— Grant Cresswell (@GrantallicA) January 19, 2016
