Alaixys Romao comments on Florian Thauvin’s speculated return to Marseille

Marseille are reportedly interested in signing Florian Thauvin on loan from Newcastle United in the January transfer window.

Marseille midfielder Alaixys Romao has told FourFourTwo that he would welcome the return of Florian Thauvin.

Thauvin joined Newcastle United from Marseille in the summer of 2015, but he has struggled in the Premier League.

"There are many injured [at Marseille] so strengthening the team would not make it worse," Romao told FourFourTwo. "I'm sure that the return of Florian Thauvin would be good for us as well as him."

According to a recent report in The Shields Gazette, Thauvin wants to return to Marseille in the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old winger has created only five chances in 13 Premier League appearances for the Magpies so far this season.

The Frenchman has a pass accuracy of 70% and a shot accuracy of 20%, and has won two headers, 11 dribbles and six tackles.

Thauvin played for Marseille for two seasons, but he did not have a great time at the French club.

The former France international endured a terrible 2014-15 campaign, scoring five goals and creating 53 chances in 36 Ligue 1 appearances.

Newcastle are third from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with 21 points from 22 matches, just a point behind 17th-placed Swansea City.
