Henri Saivet made his debut for Newcastle United at the weekend, and is determined to help the club start climbing the Premier League table.
The Senegalese star joined from French side Bordeaux, and has explained that across the Channel the view of Newcastle is still of one of England's top clubs.
He is quoted by SkySports: "The image people have in France of Newcastle is that it is a massive club, it is just struggling to get on track.
"Everything we like about Newcastle. It is a good traditional English club. It is a little bit of a shame that they are not at the top of the Premier League where they deserve to be."
Newcastle are currently in 18th position in the Premier League, dropping back into the relegation zone after Swansea City beat Watford on Monday night.
Despite this, Steve McClaren's side looked good at the weekend in their victory over an in form West Ham, with Jonjo Shelvey and Georginio Wijnaldum the stand out players.
Newcastle have had poor luck with signing players from France over the past two seasons with regard to Remy Cabella, Florian Thauvin, and Emmanuel Riviere, but the strong performances of former hero Yohan Cabaye set a level which if Saivet can get near, will make him a real asset in terms of helping them recapture their status as a top 10 team.
