Report outlines problem for Sheffield Wednesday in their chase of Gary Hooper

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly struggling to pay Norwich City striker Gary Hooper's wages.

According to a report in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Sheffield Wednesday are determined to sign Gary Hooper from Norwich City on a permanent deal, but they may face an insurmountable obstacle.

Hooper has been on loan with Wednesday since October, and he has made a good impression at Hillsborough.

The former Celtic man has scored six times in 12 appearances for Wednesday, and Carlos Carvalhal has made the striker his side’s number one target in January.

However, the Owls are facing difficulties over completing a deal, due to Hooper’s wages.

The 27-year-old is on a hefty contract at Carrow Road, and Wednesday are unlikely to be able to match his current salary.

The Owls do not want to break the wage structure they have in place, despite having money to spend.

Wednesday have already seen a number of bids fall through in January, but they are still optimistic of completing a deal for Hooper - despite initial complications.
