Newcastle reportedly want Berahino and Townsend to conclude their January transfer business

St James Park

Could the West Bromwich Albion and Tottenham Hotspur players be on their way to Newcastle United this month?

According to a report from the Northern Echo, Newcastle United are eyeing two more signings to conclude their January transfer business.

Those players are Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend and West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino; two men who have been linked with a potential move to St James’ Park for some time now.

Newcastle have already moved swiftly to strengthen their squad as they bid to avoid relegation, bringing in midfielders Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet. However it seems manager Steve McClaren is only halfway through his wish-list.

Townsend seems the more likely target given his lack of first-team football at Tottenham this season. But with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy reportedly wanting £14million for the 24-year-old the Magpies may yet walk away.

As for Berahino, West Brom still hold all the cards but the England under-21 international could excel at St James’ Park if playing week in, week out.

With attacking reinforcements reportedly seen as a necessity at Newcastle this month, watch this space…
