Newcastle United are said to have been shocked at a striker's move for the second time this month.
According to a report from the Northern Echo, Newcastle United were surprised that Charlie Austin swapped Queens Park Rangers for Southampton this month, with the Magpies believing the striker would not move on until the summer.
Newcastle are in need of additional fire-power and some Magpies fans felt Austin was the perfect solution, but when he did leave it was to Southampton for what could prove to be a bargain £4million.
The Magpies still have time to add more players to their squad having already signed Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet this month, but it seems they have been caught napping for the second time already during this window.
A recent report from the Telegraph claimed Newcastle had every intention of signing Benik Afobe from Wolverhampton Wanderers in January and were unaware of Bournemouth’s interest until the young forward completed his move to the Cherries.
The latest report suggests Newcastle were still concerned with Austin’s injury record, but if fit there is no doubt he would have done a great job at St James’ Park.
