Michael Owen gives his verdict on Liverpool v Manchester United result

Liverpool went down 1-0 to Manchester United at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Michael Owen has given his reaction to Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester United on Sportlobster.com.

Liverpool went down 1-0 to United at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Wayne Rooney’s goal in the 78th minute proved to be the difference between the two sides.

Owen, who played for both Liverpool and United, was following the game, and he was far from impressed with the football on show.

“Two teams a shadow of their former selves,” the former England international wrote on Sportlobster.com. “Attacking threat nearly non existent.

“Huge result for United but I still can't see much progress being made under LVG. European football next year in doubt for both teams.”

The result means that United are fifth in the Premier League table at the moment with 37 points from 22 matches.

Louis van Gaal’s side are just two points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur and are very much in the running for a Champions League spot.

Meanwhile, Liverpool currently find themselves ninth in the standings with 31 points from 22 games.

A top-four finish for Jurgen Klopp’s side is still possible, but on current form and recent results, it does not look very likely.
