Liverpool and Tottenham fans react on Twitter to Shane Long transfer talk

Shane Long

Liverpool and Tottenham have both been linked with a move for Shane Long.

Southampton striker Shane Long has been linked with a surprise transfer to either Tottenham Hotspur or Liverpool.

The Irish Mirror reported at the weekend that the forward is interesting both teams, who are looking to strengthen during the transfer window.

Subsequently the Saints have added QPR striker Charlie Austin to the squad, increasing competition for Long's place.

Long has made only nine starts for the club in the Premier League this season, plus five substitute appearances, and has scored five goals. Three of those goals have come in his last 10 appearances.

The striker will be keen to play as regularly as possible with Euro 2016 on the horizon, but must consider that a move to either Liverpool or Tottenham may not improve his chances of starting each week, even making it harder.

Both teams need a striker, with Spurs needing back up for top scorer Harry Kane. Liverpool have Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings and Divock Origi out injured, and Christian Benteke has failed to win over Jurgen Klopp, left on the bench for their recent big games at home to Arsenal and Manchester United.

Liverpool particularly have a track record of signing Southampton players, and while Long is a good player, he may be more of a Brendan Rodgers addition than a Jurgen Klopp signing.

Here is a look at how fans from both clubs reacted on Twitter to the transfer speculation...
