Crystal Palace are interested in signing Emmanuel Adebayor in the January transfer window.
Burnley midfielder Joey Barton suggested on the Matchday Live with Fletch & Sav show on BT Sport 1 on Saturday morning (January 16) that Emmanuel Adebayor may not be a good signing for Crystal Palace.
Palace manager Alan Pardew was recently quoted as saying by the club’s official Twitter page that he is interested in recruiting the 31-year-old striker in the January transfer window.
“Everyone is aware of what he earned at Manchester City and what he came to Tottenham on,” said former Newcastle United midfielder Barton. “Palace’s wage structure is improving but it probably won’t be at that level.
“He comes in and changes probably the wage structure and if you take him for six months it is ideal, but I think he would probably want at his age an 18-month contract.
“Do you give him that big deal? Does it cause a little bit of unbalance in the dressing room in terms of players like (Yannick) Bolasie going ‘well hang on a minute, I’ve done it for longer for this club.’? I just think there is all that to be taken into account, not only his ability on the football pitch.
Adebayor is without a club at the moment, having left Tottenham Hotspur in September. On his day, the Togolese is superb, but can he do it on a consistent basis?
Palace are having a good season, but they do need a proven goalscorer to enhance their chances of a top-six finish in the Premier League.
While the former Arsenal and Manchester City striker knows the Premier League inside out, he has not played regularly for quite a while.
Adebayor could feature in just 13 Premier League matches last season, scoring two goals and creating 12 chances in the process.
