Burnley midfielder Joey Barton said on the Matchday Live with Fletch & Sav show on BT Sport 1 on Saturday morning (January 16) that he is surprised with Dimitri Payet’s performances for West Ham United so far this season.
“I didn’t think he would have the same impact,” said Barton. “He has been phenomenal. He probably is at this point (the signing of the summer).”
Payet joined West Ham from Ligue 1 side Marseille in the summer of 2015. The attacking midfielder suffered an injury this season, but when fit he has been absolutely superb.
The 28-year-old France international has scored six goals and created 53 chances in 15 Premier League games so far this campaign.
Payet has a pass accuracy of 81% and a shot accuracy of 68%, and has won one header, 33 headers and nine tackles.
West Ham are sixth in the Premier League table at the moment with 35 points from 22 matches.
Slaven Bilic’s side are just four points behind Tottenham Hotspur, who are currently fourth in the standings and occupy the final Champions League spot.
