The midfielder impressed in Saturday's 2-1 win over West Ham United.
The midfielder completed a £12 million move from relegation rivals Swansea this week, with manager Steve McClaren spending big to secure his man in the fight against relegation this season.
He made an impressive start to life in the North Easy as well, playing a big role in helping to set up both of his side’s goals in Saturday’s 2-1 win over West Ham United.
Many praised his display and Jenas was one of those saying his debut was brilliant.
“It was a brilliant debut from the lad,” he told Match of the Day.
“I felt he added some great passing into the Newcastle team, forward passes especially. Him and Jack Colback worked very well together.”
“He’s always trying to be progressive, get the ball forward and get his team up the pitch.”
Newcastle will now be hoping Shelvey can put in this type of performance on a regular basis in the second half of the campaign.
The Magpies have been lacking a creative force in the centre of midfield, with the likes of Jack Colback and Cheikh Tiote better at the defensive side of the game.
Shelvey has showed he can excel in the win over the Hammers, and earlier in the season for Swansea, and he will prove to be more than value for money if he aid their fight against relegation this season.
