Ward-Prowse has now made over 100 senior appearances for the Saints, but there is a feeling that he hasn’t quite fulfilled his potential.
The England youth international still is not an established member of Ronald Koeman’s first choice starting line-up, although he did score twice in Southampton’s 3-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.
And Redknapp said: “I was pleased to see James Ward-Prowse score.
“I’ve met him and his family and he’s a smashing lad. He’s stayed patient and now he has to seize his chance.”
Ward-Prowse netted a wonderful free-kick against the Baggies, before scoring from the spot to double his tally.
The 21-year-old was yet to score this season prior to hitting that brace, and that should secure his spot in the team.
Koeman has tinkered with his side regularly in search of the winning formula this term, and he seems to have found a successful line up now.
Southampton have won their last two matches, and the south coast club are now in 10th place in the Premier League table.
